Brian Miller is a PhD candidate in the Driskill Graduate Program in Life Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Mathematics from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, in 2019. Before starting graduate school in 2021, he worked in upstream and downstream bioprocess development for adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapies at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical. Through his research in Dr. Lisa Akhtar's lab at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Brian seeks to understand how natural genomic variations in herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2 contribute to severe neurological infections in neonates.
