Kara Misel-Wuchter, PhD is an assistant research scientist in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Bermick at the University of Iowa Stead Family Pediatric Department. She earned her PhD in 2025 from the University of Iowa under the mentorship of Priya Issuree, PhD where she studied the epigenetic regulation of thymic development and T cell fate and function. Kara currently works on several neonatal immune development studies in the Bermick Lab, including understanding the epigenetic regulation of immune cell development, determining the effect of probiotic use on the intestinal microbiome, as well as helping establish an immunization strategy against E. coli K1 to improve neonatal sepsis outcomes.
